SUNBEAM
Pilot
Pilot of the Corax. Casual, relaxed, highly professional. He flies for the joy of it.
Physical Profile
Service Record
Pilot. Long-range drop ship operations. Performance record: exceptional. Selected for this deployment on the basis of long-haul psychological profile, Corax-specific operational certification, and documented reliability under minimal-support conditions.
Prior flight record:
Treats this deployment as comparatively routine. Prior service personnel reports are consistent with this — not assessed as dismissiveness. It is his genuine orientation. He flies because he prefers it.
Psychological Assessment
Easy under pressure. Relaxed bearing consistent across operational and non-operational contexts. Genuinely competent — capability becomes apparent under load rather than in assessment environments.
Occasionally says something that cuts deeper than it sounds. Not assessed as a concern. Noted as unusual.
Operational Role
Pilot of the Corax. This function is more critical than the mission brief reflects.
The USPN Caldera's communications array cannot reach the CARG squad at surface distance on Athena. SUNBEAM and the Corax are the only relay between Captain Sable Renn in orbit and the squad on the ground. If the Corax is unavailable, that link does not exist.
This is a single-point dependency in the mission structure. It is documented here.

The single-point dependency noted above was identified during pre-deployment risk assessment. It was not resolved. The decision not to assign a backup relay asset was made at the same level that authorised the deployment. SUNBEAM does not know he is the only thread connecting the Captain to her squad. He knows he is the relay. He does not know what happens to the mission if the thread breaks.
